HBES is an international society that was founded to provide a forum for the dissemination of research on the evolution of human behavior. Its two main activities are the highly-rated journal, Evolution and Human Behavior, and an annual conference.

The HBES Annual Meeting regularly attracts a diverse group of researchers, including, anthropologists, economists, legal scholars, psychologists, primatologists, political scientists, biologists, behavioral ecologists, physicians, and humanities scholars. This year’s lineup of speakers reflects this diversity. The conference Keynote Address will be presented by Randolph Nesse. Our Plenary Speakers include economist Samuel Bowles, anthropologist and primatologist Sarah Hrdy; linguist Jean-Marie Hombert, biologist Tim Clutton-Brock, anthropologist Frank Marlowe, developmental psychologist Andrew Whiten. HBES membership is worldwide. International interest in this forum has sparked the creation of sister organizations by HBES members in Europe and Asia: the European Human Behavior and Evolution Association, and the Human Behavior and Evolution Society, Japan. In addition to the North American universities that have traditionally hosted HBES, recent meetings have been held in London, Berlin, and Kyoto.

We are honored to be hosting the 23nd Annual HBES Meetings at Montpellier, and invite scholars from across the disciplines to attend.
